48 Hours in Madrid

We arrived in Madrid after a short flight from Amsterdam. The service on our KLM flight was impressive and we got drinks, sandwiches, and brownies, FREE! I can’t imagine that on a two hour flight on any other airline.

Our Airbnb in Madrid turned out to be even better than expected. In an 19th century building overlooking the Plaza Mayor it had two bedrooms, one good sized bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room, a lounge, and the piece de resistance a balcony overlooking the Plaza Mayor. For four people it was perfect!

We were lucky to be here on the night that Real Madrid played Manchester City in the Champions League final. The Manchester City supporters took over all the cafes on the Plaza Mayor and were singing their supporters’ songs and generally behaving amusingly.

Our first night we had tapas at several awesome spots. Our favorite spot was Casa Toni (photo below). We wanted to watch the game and fortunately some nice guys at the taverna let us watch with them on their phone. We watched the final few plays of Madrid’s win through the windows of a crowded bar which erupted in applause and cheering after the win.
